Hi everybody out there. You may have read or heard that Looe has flooded again! Looe floods a number of times a year and really is no big deal as the residents and business owners are prepared for it. Once the tide recedes everything goes back to normal and life goes on !!
It is with real concern that we want to mention the major ground works taking place on the Polperro Road. This work will start on the 4th, November and will run into mid December. Although diversions are still to be finalised by Cornwall Council we want to stress we and, indeed, Looe are very much open!
The Looe New Year celebrations are going ahead and the two firework displays have been confirmed, 18.00 for the children and 24.00 for the adults to welcome in The New Year. Many hardy souls enter the sea for a bracing New Years Day dip the following morning, not sure about this one myself. If nothing else come and see the fabulous decorations in The Olde Salutation Inn, it really is worth seeing. We at Schooner Point still have a couple of rooms available so come and join the party. Be aware a couple of venues are ticketed, however, most venues are open and will welcome you in. Don’t forget your fancy dress costumes!
There has been a lot of talk in the town and indeed on social media of a new festival in Looe. Well, Kernowfornia, as it has been titled is definitely on! 26th.– 28th. September 2025 will see this new event take place on East Looe beach, with two stages. We at Schooner Point Guest House have already sold 3 of our 4 rooms for this event and ticket sales are also going extremely well, so I encourage anyone interested to get booking quickly. The Looe Weekender is still taking place and this will be held the weekend before Kernowfornia on 19th.-21st. This event is a free jamboree of music. Many venues around the town will be hosting bands and singers over the three days. We still have rooms available for this weekend so get booking or risk missing out.
Our latest tuna fisherman had a bumper day, landing 10 fish up to 750lb. Now that is a major work out and I am not surprised that he was relieved that, due to the weather, his second day was cancelled by the skipper. This sport is really starting to take off and Looe is at the centre of it. The Cornish season is late July to the mid November, so if you like a fishing challenge check it out.
Schooner Point Guest House is open until the 4th. December so if you want your Cornwall fix in before Christmas come along. You can still enjoy your pasty’s, cream teas, crab, fish and chips and some of the best fish in the country!
Last time around I asked who did Ray Manzarek play keyboards for and of course it was for the legendary Doors, one of my favourite bands. This time can you name the debut album of Rag ‘n’ Bone Man?
